21 Years of DDLJ . Here are a few untold facts about it !
There was a time when films struggle to last for four weeks in theatres , Aditya Chopra's directorial debut Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge lasted for more than a thousand weeks . Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge became the film to shape our definition of love and romance, withstanding two decades of changing tastes. As we fell in love with Raj's dimpled smile & the simplicity of Simran , another reason to love this film was it's memorable songs , dialogues and cinematography. As the film has completed 21 years now , let's take a look at some of the Untold facts about DDLJ -
1. We all thought Shah Rukh Khan would love the script of DDLJ and would agree to do it. However, he initially said no! He liked the script but didn’t wanted to do a romantic role. He thought he was too old for this role (he entered in Bollywood at 26) and he thought he was not good looking enough . But he eventually accepted the role because of his "faith in Yash Chopra Ji & Adi” & also because Yash Ji told him that he would never be a big star if he didn’t do a romantic film.
2. When SRK watched the film, he told Yash Ji that this film is his Deewar – the one that’s going to make him "Superstar".
3. DDLJ ran into a spot of trouble while shooting for the romantic song "Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam" in Haryana. They were having all the permissions from the Panchayat to shoot on that little plot of land, but the residents of that area didn’t think that was enough and they asked, “How dare you do this on our land?” Shah Rukh eventually intervened and spoke while all the discussions were happening, they quickly set up the shot.
4. DDLJ was Karan Johar’s training ground. He said “I never went to film school. I never assisted on anything else. My only training ground to becoming a film director was Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
5. Kajol was very hesitant about doing Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye because she didn’t liked the idea of wearing a towel throughout the entire song.
6. Kajol and SRK had a lot of trouble while shooting for the scene where they wake up in bed together. Kajol said , Aditya Chopra thought it would be a steamy scene when he wrote it, but, in fact Kajol & Shah Rukh couldn’t stop laughing!
7. Aditya Chopra wrote DDLJ in the span of almost four weeks . Karan said that every day, Aditya would discuss the film and it's concept with him & ask for his input but he had the film sorted in his head & he was able to write it quickly.
