Plot – Nutan Kumar (Rajkummar Rao), who is extremely idealistic in nature, desires to reform the society in his own aptitude. He is assigned to be an election officer in a village affected by Maoists in Chattisgarh, in order to conduct polling for around 76 voters. Accompanying him in this task are two clerks and Malko (Anjali Patil), a local girl from the area. Newton wants to do full justice to his job and everything to play by the rules and regulations of the system. Though, his righteousness doesn’t bode well with the leader of Security Forces, Aatma Singh (Pankaj Tripathi) as well as with his own team members. Later on, Newton discovers that people don’t even know how to vote and his values are completely useless in a land where bullets rule. Will Newton change the world for good or not? Forms the crux of the story.
Review – Voting is our right, our constitution bestows upon us but many of us use it as a constitutive right. But in our country there are still many areas where people have no clue about what the polling system is and how their vote can change the world in which they live. Director Amit Masurkar offers us one such world from that little hamlet in Chattisgarh, where villagers live under the fear of both the army and the Maoists. It’s quite scary to see how people live in such places. Newton showcases one such touching scene which makes us realize that these villagers know that no matter whom they vote for, nothing is going to change for them. The film showcases, the youngsters who really want to vote are left at bay, while the elders are, who are having fear of their lives are brought to the polling station. The thing that works most excellent for the Rajkummar Rao starrer film is that director Amir Masurkar presents the ideologies of different characters in the movie, and lets the audience choose on whose side are they on? No doubt, Newton wants to change the world with his own ideas, but at one moment, you just want this man to shut up and adjust to the world. But overall, Newton is not a bleak movie at all, in fact, it’s a delicate satire laced with ample moments of black humour. The script is nearly tight and the cinematography captures the ambuscading suspense of the hinterlands flawlessly. Performance wise every actor in the cast is outstanding. Rajkummar Rao delivers yet another top quality performance and this one will surely be his best performance of the year. Pankaj Tripathi delivers another marvelous performance after Bareilly ki Barfi. He even outscores Rajkummar Rao in few scenes with his dry and sarcastic wit. Anjali Patil is incredible. Raghubir Yadav is wonderful as always, while Sanjay Mishra sparkles in a small cameo.
Final Words – Newton is Rajkummar Rao’s best performance till date. We’ve seen the actor in Behen Hogi Teri and Bareilly Ki Barfi, and once again, the actor doesn’t disappoints. It is one of the best films ever made in Bollywood. The film offers plenty of hilarious moments. The film has been written brilliantly, and smartly executed and has excellent on-screen performances which makes the film a must wach!

Newton is reliant completely on the multiplex business, audience feedback as well as critical acclaim that will help in turning the tables. Rajkummar Rao, Aanand L. Thus the film could easily manage to collect around 1cr on it’s Day 1 and could easily rake in Rs 4cr+ over the weekend.
