Secret Superstar Movie Review | Ratings | Box Office Prediction | Collection | Story | Trailer | Songs | Zaira Wasim | Meher Vij | Raj Arjun | Aamir Khan | Tirth Sharma | Advait Chandan
Cast – Zaira Wasim, Meher Vij, Raj Arjun, Aamir Khan, Tirth Sharma
Director – Advait Chandan
Genre – Drama
Duration – 2 hrs. 30 mins.
Rating – 4.5/5
Plot – Notorious are those who dream, “par dream dekhana toh basic hota hai.” With such a doctrine imbued in the cerebral section, the grey cells of the Vadodara girl, Insia (Zaira Wasim), keep egging her on to become a songstress in spite of the whole stress of the pungent patriarchy and the arduous academics.
Her father (Raj Arjun) is a boor, but the mother (Meher Vij) is life’s “noor.” (Sonakshi yaad aa gayi beh**ch*d. :’).) She has bought her a guitar and buys her a laptop too, and the unique idea of becoming technically ubiquitous with YouTube pops in her mind only.
The nightingale accumulates aficionados amongst whom is a Himesh Reshamiya-type music director, Shakti Kumar (Aamir Khan), who now is not living a charmed life.
In the chaotic proceedings, one day the father comes into the form and does what machismo must do. Devastated, the damsel decides to get the couple detached and living with the doomed in a different dormitory.
What happens then? How does P.K., oops Sahir, oops Mahavir, oops Shakti come into play? Watch and find out.
Review – When Aamir has invested, only iotas could be irksome. I declare in the second line only that the photoplay is both pompous and poignant. The first half is really applaudable, for the fact that despite of Aamir’s absence, it hooks you to the hilt and succeeds with flying colors in telling that it’s an Aamir Khan Productions film. The nuances of the mother-daughter relationship, the hatred you develop against the poltergeist progenitor, the ecstasy of becoming a YouTube sensation, a few more; there are some highlights of this section. The second half too is a crackerjack and the airport scene will give goosebumps.
The director, Advait Chandan, has done quite a good job. The film never bores, and he has extracted some really excellent performances. Music [Amit Trivedi] is situational and does the trick. Editing is sharp, no scene is unrequired and / or lengthy. Cinematography [Anil Mehta] is fine.
Now why have I created a sort of nomenclature of Aamir’s in the culmination of the first section? Because Zaira Wasim and Meher Vij are so watertight in the film that no one is going to pay the attention to the count. Raj Arjun deserves a slap, and here he wins. Tirth, like a teetotaler, is always conscious in the film--- and in acting. Aamir Khan is very good in his RANGEELA mode.
Final Words – Some would find it a parable, some a fable. But those who believe that iconoclasts do take birth and circumstances can lead one the either way; celebrate independence this Diwali with SECRET SUPERSTAR.
