Varun Dhawan BEATS Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan once again at the box office!
It’s been three days since Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu starrer Judwaa 2 released in cinemas and took the box office by storm. The film received mixed reviews among critics, but remains unaffected. The film raked in Rs. 16.10 crore on it’s opening day, and turned out to be Varun Dhawan’s biggest opener till date. On day 2 (Saturday) the film collected Rs. 20.55 crore and came out to be Varun Dhawan’s first 20cr+ on Saturday and the day 3 (Sunday) turned out to be even massive as the film raked in Rs. 22.60 crore and within three days the film has managed to put up a strong total of Rs. 59.25 crore over the weekend. Recently we compared the day 3 collection report of films released in 2017 and we’re surprised to know the result. Well, Judwaa 2 raked in Rs. 22.60 crore on day 3, the only film behind it is Prabhas’ Baahubali : The Conclusion which stands on top with Rs. 46.5 crore on day 3. Yes! You read it right! Salman Khan starrer Tubelight collected Rs. 22.25 crore on day 3, while Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 collected Rs. 19 crore, on the other hand Toilet – Ek Prem Katha collected Rs. 21.25 crore on day 3, while Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal collected Rs 15.5 crore on day 3, but Raees minted Rs. 13.11 crore on day 3 (Friday; 2700 screens) followed by Kaabil which collected Rs. 9.77 crore over day 3 (Friday;2200 screens). Not to forget Raees had limited screens (2700 screens plus the sheer negativity and the clash with Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil). Right now, if you think that Varun Dhawan starrer Judwaa 2 has surpaseed the three days collection of SRK’s Raees and Salman Khan’s Tubelight then you’re wrong. The three days total collection of Judwaa 2 is Rs. 59.25 crore, while Salman Khan’s Tubelight raked in Rs. 62.25 crore within three days, on the other hand Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees collected Rs. 59.83 crore in 3 days (Raees had a 5 day weekend, plus limited screen space). Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 has surpassed the three days weekend collection of Jolly LLB 2 and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha. Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 raked in Rs. 50.46 crore, whereas Toilet – Ek Prem Katha minted Rs. 51.45 crore, while Varun Dhawan starrer has earned Rs. 59.25 crore, which clearly states Varun as a winner. In fact, the overseas opening weekend collection of Judwaa 2 is $2.91m which is higher than Varun Dhawan’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania ($2.7m), and Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 ($2.5m). Film critic and biz analyst Taran Adarsh took to twitter and wrote –

1) Raees – Rs. 129 crore
2) Tubelight – Rs. 109 crore
3) Jab Harry Met Sejal – Rs. 100 crore
4) Judwaa 2 – Rs. 94.50 crore

We expect Monday, the 2nd October holiday collections to be around Rs. 24 – 26 crore, it will be interesting to see how the film fares at the ticket window on Monday.
