Plot - The story of Padmaavat revolves around Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone), known for her beauty and valour, is the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor). Rani Padmavati captures the fancy of Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh), the reigning Sultan of Delhi. Followed by certain events, Alauddin Khilji becomes obsessed by Rani Padmavati, and is ready to go beyond certain limits in order to fulfill his greed.
Review - The film "Padmaavat" is based on the sufi poem written in 1940 by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has added his own flavour to the magnum opus, thus giving it a fairy tale sheen, which makes all the controversies pointless. Sanjay Leela Bhansali unites his two favourites of the recent times, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, plus he adds Shahid Kapoor in order to complete the trio of praiseworthy acting talent.
Shahid Kapoor is dutifully firm and unwavering as Maharawal Ratan Singh, the ruler of Mewar, brimming with Rajput pride. The actor successfully brings a regal aura to the character, which warrants him confidence and allegiance of the Mewar kingdom, and above all Rani Padmavati's heart. Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati is the soul of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus. The actress shines as the Rajput Queen, her beauty with the brain plus valour makes the entire plot along once Alauddin Khilji becomes obsessed with her. Her quality of being powerfully and mysteriously fascinating beyond superficial is prominent post-interval. Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji seems like an unhinged/mentally unbalanced,
yet savagely cruel Sultan, consumed with a ravenous libido for power and flesh. Ranveer Singh successfully unleashes an animal magnetism on-screen, with a scary face, kohl-lined eyes, plus a greased torso. The scenes between Maharawal Ratan Singh and Alauddin Khilji are some of the most spellbinding, as both the actors flex their acting muscles at opposite ends. Besides them, Aditi Rao Hydari stands her ground as the naive Mehrunissa, who gets a rude awakening when she discovers her husband, Alauddin Khilji's real nature. Jim Sarbh plays Khilji's slave-general. He's good at his menacing act, but unable to overshadow his master (Alauddin Khilji).
The cinematography by Sudeep Chatterjee deserves a special mention, one must compliment him for beautifully capturing some jaw dropping scenes. Unfortunately, a few action/war scenes fail to meet the expectations raised by the trailer. The music hits the right chords, the background score is praiseworthy. The film offers a long-runtime, but all in all, the film has nothing objectionable.
Final Words - Padmaavat is a spellbinding experience brought to life with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's stroke of brilliant directorial skills.

Box Office Prediction - With too much pointless controversies, violence and protests around Padmaavat, the buzz around it will definitely increase, but there can be possible show cancellations around the country which will result in the day 1 collection of Padmaavat can be anywhere around 20 cr. The film has one advantage, and that's the 3 day holiday weekend. There have been possible expectations, regarding the film will enter 100cr club during it's first weekend. The film also had its paid previews yesterday, and the report was excellent.
