Plot – With cops behind him for being charged with his wife’s murder, Vikram Sethi (Sidharth Malhotra) runs into Maya (Sonakshi Sinha) and manages to get safe haven in her house on a drizzling Mumbai night. Soon, Maya finds out that Vikram could be a convict on the run as she alerts the cops, who nab Vikram and see the dead body of her husband Shekhar in the house. Maya accuses Vikram of double murder but Vikram pleads guiltlessness. The case is assigned to officer Dev (Akshaye Khanna), who must translate the mystery in three days.

Review – ‘Ittefaq’ is an official adaptation of Yash Chopra’s 1969 suspense drama, starring Rajesh Khanna, Nanda and Abhay Chopra retains the subject of the original and introduces his own twists and turns to the story. Ittefaq is considered as a classic coming from Yash Chopra’s camp and is still one of the most excellent mysteries ever made in Bollywood. While director Abhay Chopra’s efforts are earnest and presented in a subtle as well as effective way, there’s plenty that gets lost in translation.

Unlike the straight storytelling of the original, this investigative reboot gets a bit complex as it concurrently presents two corresponding narratives of Maya and Vikram as they disclose their relevant versions of the story to Dev. The first half makes you sit upright in the chair, very intriguing, while the second half offers spine-chilling moments as well as a scatterbrained climax.

In the long run, this trick of shuttling amid past and present to raise the suspense actually works. On the other hand, Akshaye Khanna’s marvelous performance makes this mystery investigative worth a watch. Akshaye lends gravitas to the film. His banter with fellow cop (Mr Tambe) is side-splitting. On the contrary, Sidharth Malhotra looks authentic as Vikram while Sonakshi Sinha as Maya aces in expressing her emotions.

Overall, Ittefaq is taut thriller. Despite the fact that the film is filled with terrific performances, it’ll always be remembered for Abhay Chopra’s excellent on point direction. He has added a gem in the list of best thrillers ever made in Bollywood. The director excels in the way of storytelling matching up the standards of finest of the world.

A thriller needs haunting background music, Ittefaq has it. It compliments the gripping scenes building up the suspense factor. The film has no song, which is just a right treat for everyone lost in it.

Final words – Go for it before spoilers come in to ruin your experience.
