Rock On 2 Movie Review : Farhan, Purab, Arjun & Shraddha deliver extremely effective performances !
Director - Shujaat Saudagar
Duration - 2h 19mins
Genre - Drama
Rating - 3/5
Plot - Eight years have passed since Rock On created "Magik" with the effective performances of Farhan Akhtar, Purab Kohli, Arjun Rampal & Luke Kenny. As the film ended Luke was dead & the band members were together again.
Now the sequel to the film, Rock On 2, is amidst us, there is a breach again between the friends. The film starts with a rather exasperated KD (Purab Kohli) telling about what has gone wrong. Aditya (Farhan Akhtar) has left the band, he seeks redemption. A freak incident disturbs him deeply and is now living in Meghalaya. A recluse now, stage and the rock star life are things he has firmly put in the past.
Joe (Arjun Rampal) owns a nightclub and judges a reality show, he is living the high life.
KD still hopes to reunite with Aditya and Joe once again, so that he can make music someday.
Shraddha Kapoor and Shashank Arora are the two new entrants in the film.
Shraddha Kapoor plays the character of "Jiah" an amateur singer, who has a prodigal talent with the keyboard and vocals but she is not able to reach her full potential and the reason is her struggle with her dad. Jiah is a tortured soul herself. Shashank Arora gets nothing significant to do in the film.
Review - Director Shujaat Saudagar offers us a new chapter in the lives of the members of the Rock Band ‘Magik’, the band that caught our fancy eight years ago. The script of the film looks contrived, directionless & morose to hold your interest. Music was the main element of the previous film "Rock On" but the music of "Rock On 2" isn't upto mark, shockingly weak. Apart from script and music, acting is one of the main highlights of the film with Farhan Akhtar, Purab Kohli and Arjun Rampal being extremely effective. The cinematography of Marc Koninckx’s is brilliant and remarkable. Prachi Desai continues to play as the 'undemanding’ wife, who yearns for the companionship of her regret-prone husband. Shashank Arora, the new entrant in the film, gets nothing significant to do here either. Shraddha Kapoor delivers a fine performance, she is a welcome addition to the group.
