PLOT - Subhash Nagre/Sarkar (Amitabh Bachchan), the head of the most powerful family of Maharashtra, is still bossing around because of his immense clout with masses, but there's a slight change in his style. In the latest chapter of Sarkar, Subhash Nagre, the Godfather is joined by his Grandson Shivaji Nagre (Amit Sadh), who loves as well as hates his grandfather with equal intensity. Will Shivaji Nagre betray his Grandfather or will he become a prey to his grandfather's machinations?
REVIEW - We have loved the protagonist and the premise of the Sarkar franchise for 12 years now, Ram Gopal Varma brings the third film of the franchise. The film opens up with a typical RGV punch line, giving us hopes of him returning to his top form. Having lost his two sons Vishnu (Kay Kay Menon) and Shankar (Abhishek Bachchan) earlier, Nagre has aged but not mellowed. He still slurps tea, talks with long pauses and makes guests uncomfortable by not looking in their eyes. Unlike Sarkar 1 and Sarkar 2, he has started to react more to the people around him. His wife Pushpa is ailing, he does his best to shield her. Proceedings pickup with the entry of his estranged grandson Shivaji aka Cheeku. Cheeku (Amit Sadh),Vishnu's son who's inexactness is giving Nagre sleepless nights. Gokul (Ronit Roy), Nagre's trustee is wary of Cheeku's friends Annu (Yami Gautam). Govind Deshpande (Manoj Bajpayee), a power hungry political aspirant, Gandhi (Bajrangbali) a power broker, A greedy Dubai based businessman Michael Vallya (Jackie Shroff) start making their own pitches to destroy Sarkar. Now, all we wait for is the beginning of bloodbath. But, what is RGV thriller without shocks?
Very soon, all the characters get so interlinked that it becomes difficult to figure out, who's on whose side. However, there isn't much intrigue because some of the twists are easy to guess. The best thing about Sarkar 3 is that Ram Gopal Varma is a step closer to regain his touch, Veerappan shows he's still in the game, Sarkar 3 suggests he's on a comeback. Sarkar 3 has enough moments to make you revisit the old films, but that doesn't works in the favour of the film. Manoj Bajpayee wins hearts in his very first scene, as Govind Deshpande, a conniving politician who mimics Nagre at a public meeting. Amit Sadh, Manoj Bajpayee, Jackie Shroff, Ronit Roy lend weightage to the film. Yami Gautam, Supriya Pathak and Rohini Hattangadi are short-changed. Background score is terrific, the screenplay has a few flaws, but overall it's a complete Amitabh Bachchan show, he's in top form, mesmerizing you with his grey shades.
