100 Days of Baahubali 2: Even with massive collections Baahubali 2 failed to beat Shah Rukh Khan’s this Box Office record - read details
SS Rajamouli’s recent outing ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ completes 100 days run at the box office. The film has been setting records at the box office ever since it was released. The film raked in Rs 121 crores on it’s opening day (Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam versions).
Such an enormous response was well predicted for a film like ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ bearing in mind that the film was an answer to the toughest question ‘Why Kattappa killed Baahubali’ from 2015’s ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’. Without a doubt, the massive opening day collections defeated several records including that of Salman Khan starrer ‘Sultan’ and Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ which had raked in Rs 36.54 crore and Rs 29.78 crore on opening day respectively.
But in spite of such a massive response, the Prabhas starrer failed to beat the record of Shah Rukh Khan. Yes! We are talking with reference to Shah Rukh Khan’s 2014 release ‘Happy New Year’.
Puzzled? Well, ‘Baahubali 2’ raked in a total of Rs 41 crore through it’s Hindi version on opening day whereas the Shah Rukh Khan starrer collected Rs 42.62 crore on it's opening day.
Well, undeniably this will be little disappointment for the fans of Baahubali franchise. Amusingly, whereas ‘Haapy New Year’ collected Rs 204.83 crore during it’s lifetime run at the box office, ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ continues the indestructible run at box office, has collected more than Rs 500 crores at the domestic box office so far.
It will be interesting to see how many records are yet to be busted by the Prabhas-starrer. Till now, the film has completed a 100 day run at the box office, will it be able to break the record set by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge? I mean will it be able to complete 20 years run? The answer is no! Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a romantic love story, that is still being loved by people of every age group, whereas Baahubali is a franchise, that can have sequels, but a single film from the franchise cannot complete a 20 years run at the box office. So now 2 records of Shah Rukh Khan are yet to be broken, is it possible to break Shah Rukh Khan’s these two records in future? Hope so!
‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ was released on April 28 at around 9000 screens worlwide. The film took the box office by storm (domestic as well as overseas) and set benchmarks globally. The movie was made on a budget of 250 crore, as a result it collected Rs 1917.53 crore globally and it is the second highest grossing Indian film globally (The first one is still Dangal which was released in December 2016). The film was distributed in Hindi by Karan Johar's Dharma productions and also starred Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Ramaya Krishnan and Sathyaraj in key roles.
