Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 beats Salman Khan at the box office!
Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu starrer Judwaa 2 took a terrific opening on day 1. The film managed to hold upto 70% occupancy on it’s opening day, as a result the Varun Dhawan starrer broke the record of Salman Khan starrer Tubelight which opened up to just 40% occupancy on day 1, and by holding 70% occupancy, Judwaa 2 raked in Rs. 16.10 crore on day 1.
Film critic and biz analyst Taran Adarsh took to twitter to give the box office collection report of Judwaa 2, he wrote –
Well, having a look at the opening day collections of the film released in 2017 and we were surprised to know what this youngster has achieved. Judwaa 2 collected Rs. 16.10 crore on it’s opening day, which is much higher than Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 (Rs. 13.20 crore) and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha (Rs. 13.10 crore). In fact the film also collected almost 85 lacs more than Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal (Rs. 15.25 crore) plus the film also defeated Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil (Rs 10.43 crore) at the box office, but Judwaa 2 couldn’t manage to beat Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees which collected Rs. 20.42 crore on it’s opening day despite the fact that the movie faced a lot of negativity around it, plus it faced a box office clash with Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil.
In fact, Judwaa 2 turned out to be the highest opener for Varun Dhawan. Till now, ABCD 2 (Rs 14.30 crore) was the highest opener for Varun Dhawan, but now Judwaa 2 (Rs 16.10 crore) has replaced the record becoming the highest opener for the youngster. Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Rs 12.25 crore) has grabbed the third position, followed by Dishoom (Rs 11.05 crore), Varun-Alia starrer Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (Rs 9.02 crore), Student of the Year (Rs 7.48 crore), Badlapur (Rs 7 crore) and Main Tera Hero (Rs 6.60 crore). For all those who are thinking Dilwale is Varun Dhawan’s biggest opener till date, we tell you Varun wasn’t the lead hero in the film, but yes if we take the opening day records from all his movies where the actor played the lead role or the supporting role, we come up with the result that Dilwale is still Varun Dhawan’s biggest opener.
