The film received mixed reviews from the critics, but the general audience is in full praise of Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma’s endearing chemistry and quintessential performance. The film opened up with 60 percent occupancy in India, on 3100 screens. Jab Harry Met Sejal collected Rs. 15.25 crore on day 1 at the domestic box office and became the fourth highest opener of the year after Prabhas starrer Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Salman Khan’s Tubelight and Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees. Jab Harry Met Sejal took the overseas market by storm, the film collected Rs. 23.75 crore on it’s opening and emerged as the highest Bollywood opening film in overseas.
Film critic and biz analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted –
Well, Rs. 15.25 crore on opening day isn’t a good opening day collection for a Shah Rukh Khan film, but this one has all the potential to put up a good weekend total followed by a lifetime total. We expected a good opening around Rs. 18-20 crore, but the working friday became a barrier in the occupancy for the morning and noon shows. But don’t worry SRK fans, it’s a beautiful love story and a good star cast. The film is directed by Imtiaz Ali, the storyteller. And after Shah Rukh Khan is coming back to romantic genre after a long time, and we all know why he is known as the King of Romance. The occupancy will increase on Satuday and Sunday, and will help the film in putting up good numbers at the box office.
Jab Harry Met Sejal is directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced under the banner of Red Chillies Entertaiment. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in lead roles. The film has beautiful locales of Amsterdam, Budapest, Lisbon, Prague and Punjab. It features 9 songs composed by Pritam and penned by Irshad Kamil, the film also has a song voiced by Diljit titled as ‘Raula’ and on the other hand it has a song ‘Phurrr’ which is composed by popular American DJ Diplo and Pritam.
