Cast – Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Taapsee Pannu
Director – David Dhawan
Genre – Drama/Comedy
Duration – 2hr 24mins
Rating – 3.5/5
Plot – A tale of twins named as Raja and Prem separated since birth yet linked with a strange phenomenon wherever they act in response to each other’s actions and emotions was a massive hit when it was released way back in 1997. Now, 20 Years later at the present, the glossy and classy follow-up revisits the minority plot lines in addition to scenes from the prequel (Judwaa) and gives them an up to date renovation. Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu play the love interests to Varun Dhawan though Rajpal Yadav plays Nandu, the sidekick to the tapori Prem. The plot gets a gigantic improvement, with the film moving it’s surroundings to posh London. In case, if you haven’t watched the prequel, Judwaa 2 has plenty going for itself based on it’s compelling screenplay as well as dialogue play. And above all, it has Varun Dhawan!
Review – David Dhawan’s latest film works for the reason that it appreciates why it’s prequel was such an enormous success. In addition, it also assists when the director of the film, who had helmed the prequel, and his son, who has a life-size mass appeal and is playing the lead, have come mutually for this film. David Dhawan makes no doubts about the actuality that Judwaa 2 is homage to Salman. Even if Salman Khan hadn’t done the cameo role just before the end, he’s in attendance all the way through the film in every prospect. We do look on Varun’s efforts to recreate some of the iconic Judwaa scenes – Bath tub scene as well as the toilet twins encounter; on his own, sometimes he struggles, but nearly all of the times he triumphs unscathed. The trick is not to copy, but to give a tribute, and Varun does it with extreme assurance, afterall he is the star magnetism of the film, script writing and dialogue come in second. Unquestionably David Dhawan knows who the viewers are and makes numerous indications to pop culture with hilarious jokes making references to Luis Fonsi’s Despacito, Bravo’s Champion song, Baahubali, Shah Rukh Khan’s films and even Varun’s own fan base. Varun’s charm, Jacqueline and Taapsee’s glamour, hilarious punch lines and the plot works for the film in for the most parts. Judwaa 2 also retains the BGM in parts and features some original tracks that have been remade to go well with the EDM generation. Johnny Lever’s cameo and Rajpal Yadav’s wonderful act in a supporting cast, and Salman Khan’s cameo in the last scene takes the obsession of the film to another level. While Varun is a good mimic, there are scenes where you can easily judge how overwhelmed the actor is to step into such big shoes. Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu aren’t having anything major to do. Yes, they do look stunning and provide the glamour part. The climax is a bit too stretched and the film lacks a better ending.
Final Words – Judwaa 2 is an unapologetic film, entertains alot and this is what works in it’s favour. The film is an ode to Salman Khan and his stardom in addition to Varun’s own huge mass appeal! Don’t miss it!
