Plot – Shiva (Mahesh Babu), a smart yet humble secret agent solves crimes, averts kidnappings, killings and robberies by tapping on public phone calls. Although it’s an act of invading of privacy, this down to earth agent has the paramount curiosity at heart. One such call tapping results in the killing of the caller along with the female constable that was keeping guard. On investigating into this strange death, Shiva realizes that there’s a master mind behind all this, a psychotic master mind relatively who has much eviler plans. Will Shiva be able to track the master mind and save the city? forms the crux of the story.
Review – The film revolves around a classic spy-villain plot, director AR Murugadoss presents it another way! In fact, the plot builds up a certain excitement and keeps you hooked! While the film has a few dull moments, but don’t worry there are adequate to keep you entertained. AR Murugadoss is a boss in story telling, and ‘Spyder’ proves it. The way the story led to the baddie was another appealing way of making this film, a typical crime story. Coming to the star performance – Shiva’s character was written by AR Murugadoss keeping Mahesh Babu in mind. His terrific act brought Shiva’s character alive. AR Murugadoss’s direction deserves a special mention, the director was sure about not making Mahesh Babu the star of this action thriller film. He is believed to be a usual guy with a splendid sense of logic and he let that stay throughout the film. SJ Suryah as the leading opponent was an alternative of Joker, extraordinary, hard-hitting and utterly mental and he played his part very well. In between all these crimes and murders, there’s a love story between Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet Singh. AR Murugadoss’s superior direction skills were were the superlative part of this film – The narration of Shiva’s story at the start, the action sequence in the end, the flashback chapter of the villain, are all excellent examples. The story towards the second half becomes dramatic, that dampened the ecstasy of this movie. The music not much striking, but the BGM was superior, while some of the VFX portions were hard to accept as true.
Final Words – Spyder deserves a watch for the actor director duo of AR Murugadoss – Mahesh Babu.
